About the Journey
Collective Footprints was founded in late 2009 with the intention of providing business support services and community development for Toronto’s diverse social change movement.
As a fresh from college entrepreneur I was ambitious and inspired in large part by the Centre for Social Innovation. If you have never heard of it, it is AMAZING! Back then it was a single building that provided office and meeting space to over 200 non-profit, social enterprise and business organizations and it was buzzing with projects that are addressing the social, humanitarian, environmental, economic and political challenges of our society in the most creative and inspiring way. My first experience there I was introduced to the title of Community Animator, which was the role of the person behind the front desk of this dynamic village of entrepreneurs, visionaries and leaders of the future. They were the person booking the spaces, helping to connect and weave this beautiful community together with recommendations, and being the smiling, welcoming face at the door that made you feel like you belonged in this web of awesome. My idea sparked from this. CSI operated in a physical location, but what about all the other amazing change makers out there that were tied to their own places? Who was animating community and connecting them to this movement of people who work for change to inspire their growth and success? My mission began as I sought out to meet and connect with social entrepreneurs, wholesome food providers, artists, healers, anyone who gave me the warm and fuzzies with the work that my heart says is what this world needs. Today my contact network includes hundreds of beautiful souls that I’ve had the pleasure to connect with and work for while building community in every sector imaginable within the social innovation movement. Collective Footprints has grown not just in Toronto, but across Ontario (primarily Guelph, London, and Ottawa) and more recently on the West Coast including the Southern Gulf Islands, Victoria and the Greater Vancouver Area.
